WHO IS ROGER BINNY?

CAREER

Binny started his international career in 1979 on his home ground, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, in the first Test of the home series against Pakistan. Against Imran Khan and Sarfraz Nawaz, Binny scored 46 runs in his debut match.

In 1986, Binny's spell of 7 wickets for 58 runs against England allowed India to make an unassailable 2-0 lead in a 3-match series. His best was yet to come.

In 1987, Binny picked up six wickets for 56 runs against Pakistan at Eden Gardens. In the first innings, he took four wickets, conceding only nine runs.

He was the coach of the Indian under-19 team that won the World Cup in 2000. Binny became the coach of Bengal in 2012 and later the Karnataka State Cricket Association administrator. Since 2012, he has been on the national selection committee for the Indian team.

 

BCCI PRESIDENT

On October 11, Binny filed his nomination for the BCCI President and is likely to get the top job unopposed, Board vice President Rajeev Shukla said.

The 67-year-old is the only candidate to have filed a nomination for the post, and if no more candidate emerges, he will replace Sourav Ganguly as BCCI chief when the Board holds its AGM in Mumbai on October 18.

"Roger is one of the finest human beings and a thorough gentleman who has graced the field for India. He is also a World Cup hero and has a squeaky-clean image. He had resigned from the selection committee after the Lodha committee pointed out a conflict of interest," said a BCCI source to PTI.
