WHO IS RAMESH BIDHURI
Ramesh Bidhuri
A politician affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ramesh Bidhuri represents the South Delhi constituency in the 17th Lok Sabha. This is his second term as an MP from this seat. Previously, he has served three terms as Delhi legislative Assembly member from the Tughlakabad constituency.
Born on 18 July 1961, Bidhuri went to Shaheed Bhagat Singh College of the Delhi University (DU), where he became active in student politics. He was elected as the central councillor of his college, and later a councillor to the executive council of DU.
A Delhi High Court advocate by profession, Bidhuri has held several posts at various levels in the BJP. Currently, he is the chairman of the Standing Committee of Parliament on Petroleum and Natural Gas.
A vocal critic of the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi, Bidhuri has often questioned the AAP on its promises and their delivery.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he bagged the South Delhi seat by defeating the AAP’s Raghav Chadha and the Congress party’s Vijender Singh. Bidhuri polled 56.58 per cent of the votes cast in the constituency, compared with Chadha’s 26.35 per cent and Singh’s 13.56 per cent.
