WHO IS RAM NIWAS GOEL


Ram Niwas Goel is the speaker in the Sixth Delhi Legislative Assembly since 2015. A member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Goel represents the Shahdara constituency of Northeast Delhi.
 
Born on January 5, 1948, in Haryana, Goel completed secondary education in Haryana, senior secondary education from Gandhi Memorial School in Shahdara, and then got a Bachelors of Commerce degree from Hans Raj College of the Delhi University (DU) in 1971. He also passed the ICWA (Inter) examination.
 
Goel was first elected as an MLA from the Shahdara Assembly constituency in the First Legislative Assembly of Delhi in 1993, contesting the election as a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate.
 
He is serving a second consecutive term in the Delhi Assembly. In the 2015 Delhi polls, he had defeated the BJP’s Jitender Singh Shunty by a margin of 11,731 votes. He had polled 58,523 votes, or 49.49 per cent of all votes cast in the constituency.
 
He has been actively involved in social work, particularly in the field of education and health for the economically weaker sections.
 
Ram Niwas Goel is associated with many social organisations active in providing health and medical services, promotion of religious harmony and servicing kanwad yaatris. Some of the other positions Goel holds are:
  • Founder member of Maharaja Agrasen Sewa Sansthan, Pathalogical Lab, X-Ray, Ultra Sound, ECG, etc, on a not-for-profit basis
  • Chief organiser of Delhi-UP Border Shiv Kanwad Samiti
  • Chief advisor of Maharaja Agrasen Sewa Sangh, which provides ambulance service and hearse service to general public on a not-for-profit basis
