Bappi Lahiri
Bappi Lahiri or Alokesh Lahiri was an Indian musician, composer, politician, and record producer. He became famous for popularising the use of synthesised disco music in Indian cinema. He died on February 15, 2022.
Life and education
Bappi Lahiri was born in 1952 in West Bengal's Kolkata, then Calcutta, into a family with a tradition in classical music. He was the son of Aparesh Lahiri, a famous Bengali singer, and Bansari Lahiri, who also was a musician and a singer. He was related to famous Indian singer Kishor Kumar, who was Lahiri's maternal uncle. Lahiri was initially trained by his trained and he had started playing the tabla at the age of 3.
