WHEN IS WORLD POVERTY DAY

The Internation Day for the Eradication of Poverty is celebrated every year on the 17th of October since 1993. The day is celebrated to highlight global poverty issues and address the struggles of the impoverished.

The theme of International for the Eradication of Poverty 2019 is “Acting together to empower children, their families and communities to end poverty”.

This year marks the 27th anniversary of the declaration by the General Assembly, in its resolution of 1992, of 17 October as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

According to the UN, the "International days are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity."

Poverty includes lack of nutritious food, limited access to health care, unsafe shelter, unequal access to justice.

"Poverty hurts children’s development and, in turn, leads to lower-income and health in adulthood" - United Nations
