Bio-bubble during Eng vs WI Test series?
The West Indies' tour of England was the first international cricket tournament being played after Covid-19 break. The series went on successfully and no one was tested positive during the course of the series. The broadcasting team, media persons and players along with support staff were tested every six days. Nobody was allowed to enter the stadium and if someone left the bio-secure venue, that person needed to isolate for 5 days and would need to pass two Covid-19 tests before returning to the squad.
The West Indies squad arrived in the UK on June 9 (a month before the first test) so that the players could first quarantine at Manchester's Old Trafford ground and then practise there in lockdown conditions. They had two intra-squad matches. England had only one before the squad travelled to Southampton for the match.
How bio-secure environment is being planned for IPL 2020
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet issued any standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb the spread of Covid-19 to Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises. However, Kings XI Punjab co-owner has called for daily Covid-19 tests.
Will BCCI allow WAGS in IPL 2020 bio-secure environment?
As of now there is no clarity on whether wives and girlfriends of players, commonly referred to as WAGs, will be allowed to accompany their partners. It will totally depend on what BCCI states in its SOPs. According to reports, a senior franchise official has said that it will be "criminal" to keep players away from their partners and families for two months and that too in a sanitised environment where there would be least social contact during the course of the tournament.
"During normal times, the wives and girlfriends, and at times even families, join players during a specified time. But this is a completely different scenario. If families travel, can they be confined to rooms without being able to move around normally," an official wondered. "There will be players who have kids aged between 3 and 5 years. How do you keep them in a room for two months."
