WHAT IS THE BETI BACHAO BETI PADHAO (BBBP) SCHEME?

Aims of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme  

The objective of the scheme is to address issues from declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR), women empowerment, removal of gender inequality to protecting a girl child. The scheme also tries to ensure education of the girl child and her participation in the society.

The scheme is divided into two components - first, it aims to address the issue of declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) through a mass campaign across the country. Second, multi-sectoral interventions in 100 gender critical districts according to the 2011 Census covering all the states and UTs.

Strategies of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme

• Organising discourses, debates on declining Child Sex Ratio with an aim of rapid awareness and improvement.
• Encouraging communities to participate and work towards their own development subjecting to the birth and growth of a girl child
• Initiating communication campaigns for wider dissemination of the scheme
• Training local governing bodies as well as including schools, employees of governmental departments in the process for social change and improvement.

Eligibility of the scheme

1. Girl should be Indian as non-residential Indians are ineligible for the scheme.
2. Girl should have her own  Sukanya Samriddhi Account (SSA) in any bank and should be below the age of 10 years.

How to apply for BBBP

1. Visit bank/post office where the scheme is available.
2. Fill the application form BBP/SSA manually and attach with it all the required documents.
3. Submit the documents and open an account in the girl's name.

Beneficiaries of the scheme are:

1. Newly-wed couples, lactating mothers, pregnant women and parents.
2. Doctors, in-laws, nursing homes and diagnostic centres.
3. Voluntary organisations, media, medical associations, general public as well.
